“Grand Guilds” is in the best sense a fan project — at least on the financial side. That’s because this RPG was originally funded via Kickstarter.
The result is a very tactical game with an elegant comic-book look. Players take on the role of Eliza, a fighter who returns home from a mission with her guild to find her homeland, Irin, on the brink of war.
The game is based on a turn-based combat system with the actions of the characters triggered by putting together decks of cards. Each character comes with unique abilities and skills that when properly combined bring victory.
It’s reminiscent of analogue card games like “Dominion” and “Yu-Gi-Oh!” To defeat opponents, cards with different characteristics have to be combined with each other as skilfully as possible.
Intelligence is required and it also takes patience as you await your turn to see if you’ve made the right choice. “Grand Guilds” is available for PCs and the Nintendo Switch.
