With COVID-19 keeping us grounded and stuck in our own minds, it’s no surprise for us to easily feel burnout. The liberty to escape to another country and have a vacation away from home is far from our reach. So here are a few ideas on how to revive your soul before you resume life.

How do we even get burnout anyway?

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands. As the stress continues, you begin to lose the interest and motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place.

It’s when we keep putting ourselves in a state of overdrive by constantly chasing deadlines and accommodating others without considering our own limits. Thus, exhausting the mind, body and soul unnecessarily. As a result, your productivity levels are on the down-low, and you feel like going through a downward spiral.

Why is it important to address it?

It’s about taking care of our mental health. It’s about allowing yourself to take a step back and learning to let things go and prioritise your own health first. It is part of the process of acknowledging your right to rest and take time off.

How does a staycation help?

One of the main things this whole pandemic has caused is the travelling ban. This is to reduce the unnecessary risk of importing COVID-19 cases or causing a cluster within the country. Whilst understandable, it is a hard pill for travel-junkies to swallow. Trips that were months in the making have now gone down the drain. What was supposed to be a week-long retreat has now turned impossible.

But, it does not mean we cannot improvise.

Staycations are definitely the way to go. Brunei has hidden gems that would truly soothe the frustrated soul and mend the tired mind.

The goal of any staycation is to have it not feel like any other weekend so change up your routine but choose one that speaks to your needs. Our hot tip? Treat your staycation just like you would any other vacation. That means, telling work that you’ll be away and making the most of the amenities.
