Let’s face it, we ALL love a good burger! But did you know that a burger is more than just a patty and buns? Burgers come in all shapes and sizes with all sorts of fillings, making it oh-so-satisfying as you sink your teeth into one!

And that’s exactly why we here at What’s Neue will be listing out some of our favourite spots!

Without further ado, let’s chow down on this hit list.

Note: We will not be including the big boys like McDonalds or Burger King.

Instead, we’ll be showing love to the smaller players in the F&B industry. (Note: The following is not a ranking list. It’s simply a guide on where to find burgers in Brunei.)

Top Folk first opened its doors for business back in August 2015 in a blue container cabin tucked away in a residential area in Beribi. Fast forward to 2021, they now have a commercial storefront at Beribi Industrial Complex.

Top Folk’s signature burger, the Beribi Burger (introduced in 2017) is a cheeseburger topped with corned beef and egg. The simple addition of these two ingredients created a new flavour profile, which was inspired by a fusion of local and Western flavours.

According to Izzat, Administrative Executive of Top Folk, the Beribi Burger is a favourite amongst Top Folk fans. So be sure to give it a try!

“A good beef burger starts with good meat and we get ours as a custom blend fresh from PDS Abattoir. This blend is measured to have a meat-to-fat ratio, which highlights both beefy flavour and texture. We have been using this blend since day one back in 2015,” said Izzat.

“This is important to us because we use a ‘smash’ burger technique, which literally requires smashing the burger onto the griddle to create what we like to call a ‘meat crust’,” he added, noting that this ensures that the burger is still juicy when cooked this way.

New Star Box is a family-style cafe & grill located beside CA Mohamed in Kiulap. We were pleasantly surprised at how tender and juicy New Star Box’s Sesame Chicken Burger was! (see photo above)

Why we opted for the chicken, you ask? The obvious answer … lamb was unavailable that particular day!

Club Fryday is tucked away at the back of Gadong Central. How to get there? Take the first left once you’ve driven past the GameCentral video game shop. The very first thing you’ll notice upon entering the shop is the colour pink. Even though this burger parlour is small-ish, its ambience is truly something.

Pro tip: Be sure to pair your burgers with some curly fries and soda pops.

Mince Sear Shack

Mince Sear Shack (@mince.bn) is the one place in Brunei where you can find Chuck Norris. (Well, kinda …)

Be sure to give your taste buds a kick with one of their best sellers, the ‘Chuck Norris’ cheeseburger! It’s basically a mixture of brioche and Hokkaido milk buns. The beef patty is minced in-house with Mince’s own blend of Chuck and beef fat ratio. It comes with house smokey chipotle mayo, smoked cheddar cheese, thinly sliced sweet red onions, a slice of tomato and butterhead lettuce.

Ahoa Burger has a number of branches (food stands) across the country. Be sure to drop them a message via the mobile lines mentioned above for more details on that. Fun fact: Did you know that the initials for AHOA Burger stand for ‘Awang Haji Omar Ali’?

In conjunction with the 75th birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Ahoa Burger is among the many businesses that are participating in this year’s Gerai Perayaan in the heart of the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. Their stall is located in front of Ayamku Restaurant near the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien. Ahoa Burger will be there until August 3, 2021.

Be sure to give their satay burgers a try!

Pitstop Burger & Fries

Address: Simpang 809, Kg Sungai Besar, Jalan Kota Batu

Contact: 8143841

Pitstop will be rebranded as SnapBurgers as of July 31, 2021. So do expect a name change to its current IG handle @pitstopbythebridge. This is not your usual bar burgers as all burgers here have to be smashed!

Is there even a need to establish a National Burger Day in Brunei? Well, as far, as Pitstop is concerned, it’s burger day errr’day! The Gunslinger is a regular on their griddle and is always selling out fast!
